Gelatin Health and Safety

Gelatin has always been and remains a healthy and safe food product for human consumption.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the European Commission for Health and Consumer Protection confirm that gelatin is safe.

Gelatin continues to maintain its "Generally Recognised as Safe" status within the USA.

Gelatin raw material regulations and the gelatin production process guarantee maximum safety for gelatin consumers.

The members of the Gelatin Manufacturers Association of Asia Pacific individually attest that the gelatin manufactured and sold by those members is safe for use in food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications.

BSE/TSE
Over recent years, both national and international authorities have introduced legislation to enhance the safety of gelatin for human consumption. In most instances, these regulations exclude cattle parts that may not be used as a gelatin raw material.
Under such legislation, all cattle parts approved for gelatin manufacture can only be derived from cattle the meat of which has been approved for human consumption.

The World Health Organisation has stated that, like milk and meat, bones cattle hide and pigskin do not contain BSE.
